Patchwork Health Acquires L2P to Streamline Healthcare Workforce Management

Patchwork Health, a UK-based leader in tech-driven workforce management solutions, has acquired L2P Enterprise, a company known for its medical appraisal and job planning software tailored for healthcare. This acquisition brings together two complementary platforms, forming a unified solution aimed at optimising workforce processes across over 200 healthcare organisations, including more than 100,000 clinicians. Founded in 2016 by NHS doctors Dr. Anas Nader and Dr. Jing Ouyang, Patchwork Health has been instrumental in helping NHS organisations implement flexible staffing solutions through digital rostering, staff banks, and agency management.

The acquisition of L2P enables Patchwork to provide an end-to-end suite of tools that address the healthcare industry’s unique workforce management needs. L2P, established in 2009 by Dr. Patrick Doyle, specialises in job planning and credentialing for medical professionals, including doctors, Allied Health Practitioners (AHPs), and nurses. L2P’s platform is widely used in both public and private sectors, with over 75 NHS Trusts and 55 private healthcare providers relying on its tools. This combined entity aims to improve productivity, reduce costs, and support healthcare organisations in delivering high-quality patient care by deploying resources more strategically.

Patchwork’s CEO, Dr. Anas Nader, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, noting that L2P’s shared vision of improving healthcare makes it a natural partner. “Both L2P and Patchwork Health are led by people who have firsthand experience of the challenges we’re tackling,” he said. The unified platform is designed to streamline staffing processes and support clinical service plans, allowing healthcare teams to make data-driven decisions quickly. This collaboration also reduces reliance on third-party agencies, as Patchwork Health has already saved the NHS over £120 million by improving shift fill rates and reducing agency dependence.

The partnership benefits both companies by combining their technological and operational strengths. L2P’s expertise in appraisal and credentialing enhances Patchwork’s existing tools, while Patchwork’s established data analytics capabilities allow healthcare organisations to optimise staffing with greater precision. L2P’s CEO, Jim McLaughlin, highlighted the importance of collaboration in tackling healthcare’s workforce challenges. He noted that the partnership “enables us to build a software company worthy of the important work its users do,” as both teams work together to unlock productivity gains in clinical settings.

Patchwork’s COO, Dr. Jing Ouyang, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the alignment of both companies’ goals and values. “Over the last 8 years, we’ve been relentlessly focused on making healthcare work better,” she said. Integrating L2P’s job planning tools with Patchwork’s rostering and staff bank solutions promises to enhance service delivery across the board, enabling healthcare organisations to deploy staff where they are most needed efficiently.

The acquisition also brings opportunities for innovation, with both companies committed to developing new services and expanding into new markets. Patchwork and L2P plan to leverage their shared market insights and technical expertise to refine their combined offerings further. The unified platform provides healthcare administrators with a holistic view of workforce needs, enabling them to manage staff allocation and reduce operational bottlenecks. This integrated approach aims to eliminate silos and unlock critical data that can inform strategic decisions in real-time.

L2P’s founder, Dr. Patrick Doyle, sees the acquisition as an exciting next chapter, allowing L2P’s solutions to reach a broader audience while benefiting from Patchwork’s established infrastructure. He expressed confidence that joining forces with Patchwork Health will extend the impact of L2P’s appraisal and credentialing tools, helping healthcare organisations to optimise clinical resources and meet rising patient care demands.

With shared values and complementary strengths, Patchwork Health and L2P are set to lead the way in healthcare innovation, delivering tools that empower clinicians and administrators alike to operate more effectively in a challenging healthcare landscape.
